May 2019

Dear Parents:

The 2018-2019 school theme is Embracing Excellence Through Critical Thinking.  Teachers, through the school year, have used the theme to enhance instruction by encouraging students to embrace learning through thinking critically. Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking are the “4Cs” identified by the Partnership for 21st Century Learning (p21.org) as characteristics students need to develop to be a part of a global economy.

April was an outstanding month. We are proud of all the focus and effort students showed during State Testing. Midterm Progress Reports were mailed home. Congratulations to the Health Council for hosting a great “Spring into Shape” activity day. This was followed by another successful event, the Family Sports Night.

We appreciate all who volunteer time to help support the educational efforts of the school as well as our outstanding staff who continually support students through whole child instruction. The School Board met in April and created goals for the school district by updating the strategic plan of the school district.

May promises to be another busy month. Student Council will be hosting Spirit Days. Thursday, May 2, will be “I’m a Teacher Day” and Thursday, May 30, will be “Casual Day”. The “Second Annual Talent Show” will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2:00 pm start time. Field Day is scheduled for Thursday, May 23.  Students are encouraged to wear their Congress Cougar spirit shirts on that day. The Honors Assembly will be on Tuesday, May 28, at 2:00 pm. Please make sure to set aside this time on your calendar. We enjoy seeing all parents and guardians at the Honors Assembly.

If you know of a child, or have a child, who should be in Kindergarten or may qualify for a Preschool for four-year-old children, please call the school. In April, the Congress Elementary School Board passed the Four Day School Calendar for the 2019-2020 school year. First day of school begins on July 22. The school calendar will be included as a flyer with this letter. Updated supply lists will go home by the end of this school year.
