Dear Parents:

A famous dialogue written by J.R.R Tolkien: “I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” The current pandemic has forced a state of unexpected change in learning to “Remote Learning”. Change management is a critical life skill. It helps us get through the unexpected and expected. Below are two visual models of change management. It is normal to feel off balance and uncomfortable with change (especially while experiencing a pandemic). To learn more about helping others through change, here is one website: https://www.insights.com/us/resources/coachingpeople-through-the-change-curve/.

The 2019-2020 school theme is Embracing Excellence Through Dreaming and Shaping Possibilities. C.S. Lewis stated, ‘’You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” We appreciate all who volunteered time to help support the educational efforts of the school as well as our outstanding School Board and staff who continually support students through whole child instruction.

Council Updates: Health Council Students are weekly sharing, on the ClassDojo, ways they stay physically and mentally fit. Student Council is hosting a “Quarantine Talent Show”. Guidelines for the Talent Show are posted in ClassDojo. Anti-Bully Committee is going to have a meeting and plans will be shared.

Midterm Progress Reports were mailed home in April and report cards will go home by the first week in June. We will not be hosting an Honors Assembly this year; however, honors certificates and other awards will be sent and/or mailed home. The school will be hosting a virtual 8th Grade Promotion this year and information will be shared as plans solidify in this area.

Speaking of next school year   : The school district is preparing for many possibilities. These possibilities include continuing “remote learning”; reopening as traditional; and/or a hybrid that includes remote learning with ability to access learning at school. The flow of information and speculation in this area is immense. As the school receives direction/mandates, through the State, parents will be informed as soon as possible. Please continue to monitor the ClassDojo; the school website (www.congressdistrict.org); the Alert messages sent out by the school; and mail for updates. For right now, one thing is certain: Some form of school will start on Monday, July 20, 2020 for Congress Elementary Students. The school calendar will be included as a flyer with this letter. Updated supply lists will go home by the end of May.
Thank you for your continued support,
